What was the first bicycling computer?
#1
Hello.

Not looking to age myself but I have been enjoying cycling for decades.  And I recall the original bicycle computer coming out in the 1975-1979 time period.  However, I can recall the brand?

Does anyone remember?

What I think I remember is it was:
. Grey or silver color
. Square shaped with rounded edges
. Only a one line LCD display

Thank you.

AVOCET 20... 1978-9? I found out about them in the bike news and ordered one from the factory before they were posted on the markets. It took about a month for it to arrive. I was the first cyclist to have and use one in Columbus, OH. Even now I feel I cannot ride a bike if it does not have a cyclometer. Before that Avocet I used the cable driven speedometer. They could not be calibrated for true accuracy. The old fork mounted "wheel clicker" that mechanically counted only the number of wheel revolutions. I then used math and tire circumference to compute how exactly far I traveled daily for my daily mileage log.
