Wheels

I have a 1987 Cannondale racing road bike that I have been using to ride on crushed stone and paved trails. The wheels have worn out and need replacing. I was wondering if I could get a slightly wider wheel that could support a wider tire. The crushed stone makes control a bit hard at times. I am looking for more stability from the bike.
I like the feel of the bike and am very comfortable with the road set up. I would rather not have to buy a new bike.

The thing with your bicycle is the age, How many speeds? Freewheel or cassette? If hubs are good it may be better to lace new rims to them. Check frame clearance by bottom bracket. What size tires do you have now? What width is the rim you currently have? Pics are nice too.

These type of bikes usually max out at 700x25c, if you're already running these I guess that's the most you can get out of them, if you want more comfort, try running the tires tubeless (get a slightly modern rim with vintage looks) and going on rides with a lower psi, should add more comfort and grip to your rides with this set up
