What would you use to replace a Suntour alpha 3000 rear derailleur?
#1
I'm quite attached to an old Mongoose "Hilltopper" mountain bike. It's perfect for it's role taking me back and forth to the metro station. Sturdy, comfortable, and not likely to be stolen.

Unfortunately, the Suntour alpha 3000 6-speed rear derailleur is toast. Is there anything I can buy that will replace it?

Thanks!

Shimano Tourney.  Less than $20- from Amazon.

Pictures required of what you have to give the exact model you need.

Get this: http://www.amazon.com/Shimano-Tourney-TX75-Speed-Derailleur/dp/B003ZM9REA/ref=sr_1_5?s=outdoor-recreation&ie=UTF8&qid=1438705087&sr=1-5&keywords=shimano+tourney+rear+derailleur

You will also need a new shifter cable and housing.

Thank you very much for your help, Nigel. Is there a particular model of cable and housing I should get?

Can I also ask you if you know what type of freewheel remover tool I would need? I see there are 2 and 4 prong sun tour freewheel remover tools.

Thanks again!
Eli

Why do you want to remove the freewheel?  In any case, take the rear wheel out of the bike and look.

Cables - the Bell set at Wal-mart is fine.
