Bottom bracket removal
#1
Hello everyone,

lately I've been hearing to a clank sound while pedaling, but on the right pedal. At first, I thought that the pedal was the problem. But yesterday I realized that the issue was that the bottom bracket is loose.

I removed the allen bolt and this is how the bracket looks like. (see attachment)

Do you guys know what tools I need to fix that?

After watching some youtube videos I thought I needed a Crank Puller Remover like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Bike-Bicycle-Cycle-Crank-Puller/dp/B006UMFUES/

And also maybe a bottom bracket remover? http://www.amazon.com/BIKEHAND-Bicycle-Shimano-Bracket-Removal/dp/B00811WQJS

Thanks!

Your picture is of the end of the BB spindle, inside the crank arm. Yes, you need a crank arm remover. You need to remove the washer before using it. It's best to study written instructions rather than depend on videos alone. The page linked below from sheldonbrown.com (including the links to cartridge bottom brackets and crank removal) will have all the guidance you need. Study them so you don't make a mistake - expensive parts and tools.

Thanks for your reply.

Do you know how to remove the washer?

Unfortunately I don't have the written instructions of the bike.

Thanks!

The washer should easily come out, or you may need to use a screwdriver to lever it out. Bikes don't come with written instructions - I was referring to instructions on the Internet, such as the one I forgot to add!

What washer? it looks like a standard ISIS BB to me.

Never mind, you're right, obviously Isis BB - poor lighting on my laptop at the time. Removal procedure: http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/crank-removal-installation-isis-drive-or-octalink

The tools I ordered were delivered this week and I tried to remove the BB today.

The left lock ring ( https://cloudup.com/cvtWpZcyFxw ) was removed easily with this bb remover: https://cloudup.com/c0_6oWv69Tr

However I am not able to remove the right ring: https://cloudup.com/cLkfp_WiY-n

For some reason the bb remover doesn't fit the ring's interface. Do you have any advice?

It is opposite thread of the one you removed, it is merely seized, get a long pipe/tube on your tool and try again. It is not a ring, it will be your whole assembly. it may take two people to hold things together. If it is a hollow spindle you may be able to use a quik release skewer to hold the socket in place and use a wrench to crack it loose
