Bike Grips ?

I need to get a new set of grips for a ladies Trek Navagator.The left side grip is one length and the right side is another,so when buying grips do shop by length of grip and handle bar diameter or make of bike? I notice alot of grips advertised don't even have dimensions listed.

Thanks,after a doing a little research and measuring I found a set that should fit perfectly. It has the twist grip type shiftier and someone had replaced the grips with a pair that were a little too long which led to them cracking prematurely.
