Hi there. I am rebuilding a Mk2 Raleigh Chopper. I bought a 28 spoke Sturmey Archer hub and have been struggling to find a 28 spoke rim to fit it. It seems as though most Choppers had 36 spokes. What is the correct hub size and are 28 spoke rims available ? Thanx
I think the Raleigh chopper had 16" front wheel and 20" back wheel. Raleigh often used 28 spokes on the front wheel, and 36 in the back wheel, which (again) I think was standard on the MKI and II choppers. Chromed steel rims were common too. The standard AW 3 speed hub came either with axle 146 mm or 163 mm, including threading for the nuts and washers. Good wheels can fairly easily be found on ebay, at least ebay.uk.
On a very worn old tire I can make out 20 x 2 125, but not much else.
