Changing out crankset
#1
I'm currently riding a ten year old bike with a 105 triple crank, 9 speed cassette. I rarely use the innermost ring. I would like to try a compact crank (105 or Ultegra). Will I have to change out the front STI lever as well?

Hmm not too sure but maybe, I would wait for one of the others who have/had this model
Good maintenance to your Bike, can make it like the wheels are, true and smooth!

No, I don't think so, the spaces between the front chainrings is the same on a double as it is on a triple. You should be able to use the limit screws on the front mech to prevent the chain coming off the inside of the smaller ring.

Depends on the STI lever - some triples will work okay with doubles, some will not.

Ron - more than likely it will work. Can you pull the hood boot back and find the model number? It will probably read ST-5xxx something.

So you're saying the older 105 STIs could be switched from double to triple? Wow, that's good to remember (though mine are too new...)
