What Do You Call The Little Thingamajiggers
#1
The little things that screw into a rear horizontal drop out to act as an axle stop, so as to align the rear axle the same way every time after a flat for example. Not the ones that thread through the back of the drop out though a threaded hole in the frame, the little C shaped sucker that touches the axle in the drop out. They are especially useful for bikes with Rear Derailleur hangers that act as a stop on the drive side, while letting you set up a stop on the off side, thus making rear wheel alignment a snap. My buddies used to toss them on bikes without RD hangers unless they were necessary.
Am I making any sense?
What are they called & where do I get at least one? LBS says they don't have.

Not sure; but would one of these work?

I could also make something I suppose. I need a "stop" to touch the axle shaft while staying clear of any nuts or washers on the axle. This will locate the wheel in the same spot every time. I have a wheel with narrow rim brake tracks, positioning is a pain in the butt, an axle stop would make it a non issue.
We used to throw them away!

This is a primitive sketch

The extra "tongue" hits the axle before washers, nuts, flanges etc... would contact the remainder of the drop out adjuster.
You get the wheel exactly where you want it, then slide the adjuster forward 'till the "tongue" hits the axle, tighten & you're done.
I remember the ones that came with my old Nishiki were C shaped & very nicely crafted & finished in fine chrome.
