Extend handlebar on old schwinn varsity
#1
I would like to extend the handlebars on my old 1970's schwinn varsity 3 to 4 inches. Does anyone know which kind of extender would be the best to buy? I do not know the standard measurement to look for or where to start.

Your question is a little vague. What do you mean by "extending the handlebars"?

Upward
Outward
or actually looking for longer handlebars

I am looking to raise the handlebars upward with a handlebar stem extender. With something like this <http://www.amazon.com/Sunlite-Cromo-Quill-Stem-Extender/dp/B000AO9ZE8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1345679138&sr=8-2&keywords=bike+stem+riser> But I'm not quite sure I have the right one.

On the Nashbar website you might look for a quill stem adapter. Or perhaps their comfort quill stem.

A bike of that age is likely a 1" stem.

Make sure your handlebar stem is extended fully to the limit mark first. If you are looking 3-4 inches you would be better off with a taller handlebar.

First make sure your current stem is set us to the limit mark.
