Bent Rear Derailleur
#1
I'm trying to get an old MTB back on the road. It has been laying on its side for about 1 1/2 years and the rear derailleur is bent. When it is in 1st gear it rubs against the spokes. Can it be fixed or will I need a new one? Any help much appreciated. Thanks

If you don't have a derailleur alignment tool this is a good way to do it.

Make sure that you have the rear wheel installed so you don't bend the frame. Use a 10mm X 1 pitch bolt ( the longer the better), and make SMALL adjustments a little at at time.

Yeah, check if the hanger is bent first, since that is fixable. I don't think you can fix a bent derailleur. A replacement derailleur shouldn't be all that expensive, and would work better than something that is rusted and has been bent back into shape.

Change your cables and housings, too.

looks like a new one to me, too damaged to repair, and as said before, check dropout for bending and thread damage before spending money!
