Zoom 550 forks
#1
My forks are very stiff. I was told to oil top seals and they should free up
they didn't! Also there is a adjustment allen screw at the bottom of the forks didn't seem to make a change in stiffness Does anyone have any ideas? I am in my 60's and want a soft feel. The bike was purchased used it is a Mongoose XR-250 I have changed tires to road tires and softened rear shock and spring. Now its time the forks to adjust?

I don't believe the Zoom forks are actually adjustable. I encountered one of these a long time ago. It seemed to have the appearance of adjust-ability but no matter what I did, I did not see a difference. I'm fairly certain that the Zoom forks are spring loaded and are just like a pogo stick.

Zoom fork is only for a recreational MTB. It's suitable for recreational purpose only.

I still use it on my MTB but not for extreme riding.

you should not ride with your rear sus too slack, this will allow hammering of the sus unit and damage the thread on the body, and in any case, defeats the object of having sus, which is to absorb large shocks in heavy conditions, not normal road use.

To actually get a more comfortable ride, change to wider tyres and ride with low pressure (a bit above minimum).
Having a too soft rear suspension additionally "steels" energy from you. Instead of accelerating the bike will simply bounce. I like the suspension to be stiff enough so that it still absorbs the large shocks but otherwise is not (too) noticeable. Any cheap suspension mainly increases weight of the system...
