Custom handlebar plugs
#1
Hey guys,
I have a stupid idea for my bike. You can't see it in the pic I uploaded but I've replaced the original handlebars with blue bullhorns that match the wheels. I want to do the harlequin kinda tape pattern on the bars (either black/red or black/blue, can't decide). What I would really like to find or possibly make are bar end plugs that look like the tips of horns.
Anyone know of any site that sells custom plugs, or can anyone point out how I would go about making my own?
Thanks

No suggestions. But I will just point out that the purpose of bar end plugs is to cover up the dangerous end of the bar which can puncture a nice round circle of flesh in a crash. If you do make/find some horn shaped replacements, I just hope they're made of something somewhat soft. But otherwise...nice bike!

hmm, i guess deep down i really just wanted to mow down jerks with my bike.
haha but thanks for pointing out what should have been obvious to me. I guess I can look into fashioning some nice felt or foam horns and gluing them onto the plugs.
Thanks, Dave.

Well here's a pic of what I did with the handlebars. I did a terrible job with the tape and it looks kinda stupid. But I was only messing around. I bought a Nitto RB-021 that I'm waiting on. I'll let the bike shop do the tape job this time. Maybe I'll settle for red or blue plugs instead of the horns idea.

The flesh cutting thing was not about you cutting someone else's flesh but rather your's when the handle bar twist in a crash and hits your leg or some other part of the body.

Plugs can be found at LBS for cheap, just fine one you like and get those; in fact if the LBS rewraps your tape with new tape the new tape comes with bar plugs, I would just use those unless you want a different color then the tape package came with.
