Brands of v brakes

does anyone know if rockwood or origin8 are decent brands? i can get them relatively inexpensively from my lbs for around $8 a pair with everything included... which ones are the best?????

never heard of rockwood. Origin8 offers good stuff. My preference is Avid for V-brakes.

I put these on my SR Sierra:

as far as I can tell, the only difference is the more expensive one are black anodized, and the VIA are unfinished aluminum. A little bit of black is not worth it to me.

And Tektro for dual pivot sidepulls.

alright. well i decided to go with a shimano alivio shifers, alivio brake handles, xlc handlebars, alivio rear and front deraileurs, maxxus tires, and shimano actus v brakes... all this $ for a cheapo aluminum next... what was i thinkin? lol... any opinions on whether this is a good setup?

Well, it probably matches the level of the bike. Alivio is basic entry level stuff. It should work well enough but probably is heavy. However, a nicely tuned cheap bike can be pleasant to ride if you don't race (and the weight doesn't bother you, eg. on steep climbs... to be honest: cheapest way for me to climb easier would be to eat less ). One thing where I don't mind spending more is the tyres, though I cannot comment on your choice. Have fun upgrading and riding!

i guess the bike aint that bad..it doesnt weigh a lot...the tires i think are ok, but i'm open to suggestions...this is a ride around the neighborhood and to work bike...the closest i think it will come to off road is the gravel parking lot and a few easy trails....i'm just recuperating from a heart attack so nothing strenuous.(like riding my raleigh to key largo and back!)for awhile at least...lol
