Do the vertebrae have the same problems as Nokon, i.e. the little "rolls" move against each other after some time and a nasty creaking and clicking can develop?

He is refering to Pedro's tools, not cables and housing. They don't make cables or housing. I agree. I like Pedro's tools for the most part. Especially the bottle opener. Makes beer taste better.

I've been doing some experimenting with cables and housing for some time now, and having to deal with the weather extremes of the northeast, I've not found a better test bed for equipment.

In the northeast, I've found a full length compressionless housing is the best for all year/all weather conditions.

Something like the JagWire Ripcords ( http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/CA304C00-Jag+Ripcord+Diy+Brake+And+Derailleur+Kit.aspx )
(my personal favorite) are affordable and give outstanding performance.

I've tried the Gores and found them a bit tricky, and I have not tried the Nokons, but have heard good things about them. The cost of both systems can be astronomical though. And I don't like to spend a ton of money.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the link. I like Jensonusa. I might try those next time I need some cables.

No problem. Definitely give them a try. You'll never buy another type of cable. For mountain biking at least.

I'm always looking for tools that do the job well but don't hurt the wallet much.

I decided to try a Titan "aviation" cutter that I found in an auto parts store and it works GREAT! for about $10. Below is a set of three on Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/Titan-11463-3-Piece-Aviation-Straight/dp/B000OECQTA

I just bought the straight cutter and didn't think I would need the curved ones.

My dad always told me a Sledge a matic can fix any thing.
