Hi Guys

Hey Guys,

Im pretty new to biking but its something Ive wanted to get into for a long time so there's a chance youll be seeing me around here.

Just got my first decent bike, a used Norco Mountaineer, nothing compared to some of the bikes you guys have I know but Im not a tight budget and have an even tighter wife (did that come out wrong?)

So I will end up having to do all the work on the bike myself as I cant really afford bike shops, I was wondering if perhaps any of you would be willing to share your 'secret' spots for good deals on bike parts.

Also I need to start building a collection of bike tools, if anyone knows a good place to get them cheap then I would love to hear about it.

Thanks guys!

Most of my stuff came from Amazon or Harbor Freight. I built my own truing stand, because I was not good enough with the wheel in a bike frame. It has a Harbor Freight dial indicator on a magnetic base.

Alas amazon doesn't like shipping to Canada for some reason, not sure about Harbor freight but Ill definitely give them a look.

What did you use to make your own truing stand?

Hi Dave;
http://s211.photobucket.com/albums/bb8/dianemisso/Nigels%20Wheels%20042311%20A/Nigels%20Wheels%20042311%20B/Nigels%20Wheels%20042311%20C/Nigels%20Wheels%20042311E/?action=view&current=IMG_0438.jpg

It consists of two piece of aluminum angle, two 3" L brackets, a ruler with the '0' in the center, two small clips (markers on the ruler) and two medium clips (holds the ruler to the aluminum angles. There is also a thin 2" wide piece of steel screwed to the bench top for the magnetic base of my dial indicator to attach to.

The dial indicator is for both side to side (axial) and round (radial) run out measurement. My eye balls were just not good enough in a bike frame....

I had everything except the thin piece of steel already. A cheap square would have been less expensive than the steel strip, like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Empire-Level-100-8-Inchx12-Inch-Carpenter/dp/B00004YYFD/

Not counting the dial indicator, it can be made for less than $20-.

My dial indicator is similar to this one - but purchased more than 15 years ago. http://www.harborfreight.com/1-inch-travel-machinists-dial-indicator-623.html

Pretty hard to beat MEC, costs $5 for a lifetime entry, and Niagara Cycle if the shipping doesn't kill you.
