Gt Chucker 2008 derailleur problem

hi i have a gt chucker and when i change gears its noisy in every gear. also the chain slips off the front single sprocket when in to the high gears. and when i change down gears i have tried adjusting the screws on the derailleur but it makes no difference. any help would be good thanx. the only thing that has been changed is the back wheel. it has the same amount of cogs on the back wheel, so couldn't see why this would be the problem.

The screws are only for adjusting the end stops of the dérailleur to make sure it doesn't hit the spokes or run of the small cog.

There is a cable adjuster which is used for aligning up the dérailleur to cogs.

The adjuster is usually where the cable attaches to the dérailleur and sometimes there is one at the changer end.

Chain dropping off the front could be:-

Teeth worn.
Worn or slack chain (to long or not enough tension)
Derailleur lost tension.

Also check that the derailleur is still straight. (vertical when viewed from the back and parallel with rear cogs when viewed from above.)

I sorted the problem needed to change chain ring and adjust rear dérailleur i have another problem i put a sealed head set bearing in to the gt frame it was off a fold up bike frame it fits nicely but the steering feels a little tight and the more i tighten the center bolt the harder the steering is??

I think you have an "A-head" stem. Over-tightening the center bolt will make the steering stiff. The bolt should be just tight enough to take up any play in the bearings. The 2 screws at the back of the stem hold the steering together.

Slacken the 2 screws and then adjust the top center bolt to take out any play. Then re-tighten the 2 rear bolts making sure the stem is in-line with the front tire. You may have to do this a couple of times until the new bearings are bedded in.
