Overhauled rear Hub and forgot how it went together
#1
Hello, I am new at working on bikes needless to say. This site had proven invaluable thought. Thank you for it. I have an old Schwann World Sport I got 3ed hand from a guy I once new. I was overhauling the rear hub. However I removed the nuts and cones from both sides of the axle and I can’t exactly remember how it was originally.

There is also a long spacer which I’m pretty sure goes between the cone and the locking nut on the drive side. I have also removed the bottom bracket so I may be mixing some of those parts. Can anyone give me an idea or a diagram as to how the parts should look on the axle?

I will try to add pictures. I have temporary reassembled the nuts as I think they may have been.

Thank you

Hmm, looks like you have the pieces in the right places. You will need to loosen the lock nut on the non-drive side, screw it out until there's about 2.5 mm or so of thread on the axle showing and lock it all down again. do the opposite on the drive side. You want the amount of thread showing on each side to be about the same. Good luck.
P.S. Make sure that the bearings don't get out of alignment while you're fixing the spacing and that when you lock both lock nuts down that the axle is still spinning freely without any 'knock'. That means that if you're holding the rim between your knees (or something similar) and you grab both ends of the axle, if you shake it back and forth, there should be no play in it.
