Put drive train together from scratch
#1
Hello all,

I am switching drive trains from one bike to another, one set which is factory, one set which was done from scratch starting with only a frame. The bottom bracket widths are different.

Q: Is there some resource out there that will tell me how to put together a drive train from scratch? I.E., how to make sure I am getting the correct parts (like what to measure to make sure everything is in the ballpark for correct alignment).

Thanks.

a little more detail please.

with a derailluer equipped bike, there is quite a bit of latitude on setting up the chainline. Sheldon Brown discusses this quite extensively, and you may want set things up differently depending on how and where you ride.
