Newbie ? suspension
#1
Hi all,

Quick question, I just bought a new MTB with front and rear suspension. Never had a bike with suspension before. Anyways, when riding first off it seems that when you go over a big bump the front cylinders compress however, at times I need to pull up on the handlebars because they don't pop back out. Same thing if I apply the front brake real hard the cylinders compress but don't pop back out right away. Not sure if this is normal or not. IT seems to ride nice and smooth other than this. I can stand over the bike and bounce the front end up and down and they will compress and open fine. Not sure if this is normal or not. Please advise. . Thanks

Hi, welcome to the forum

In answer to your question no it's not, not even cheap RSTs should do that.

What bike is it? If it's a cheap RST fork you've probably got a dodgy fork and should take it back. If it's an oil-based fork such as a Fox, Rockshox or Manitou then I suspect it's not set up properly, though there have been certain issues with certain new forks, and it could be a poorly lubricated seal or something internally dodgy.

Could you tell us what fork it is? if not then what bike is it you've just bought, that'll allow us to help you more.

Nope not normal as Jon B said. Make sure they are aligned properly not twisted and if air pumbable make sure they have proper pressure.
Never Give Up!!!
