Which is more Preferable? CC-2 or CC-3

Just wandering for those who use the chain wear indicators from Park Tools. Which model is more preferrable, the CC-2 or the CC-3?


I know of the steel ruler is a quick and easy method as on Alex's video.

I'd say the CC-2 is nicer to use.

The adjustable part does look a little better then the one size fits all lol that the cc-3 does.

Very interesting article. Noticing that he was talking about "new" would take it back to Manufacture Defect. I just wrote Park asking them what their view on this article was out of personal curiosity. We will see how they feel and their views.

Ok here is a reply from Park Tool Company in repsonse to the article:

Thank you for the note. I have read the article. I think they singled us out simply because we are well known. Removing and hanging the chain can be accurate, certainly, but I would not recommend it for most modern chains. Manufacturers recommend installing the chain, leaving in place to clean, and replacing it. The days of removing the chain for cleaning, or measuring, and re-installing are gone. Even chains with master links should not be constantly removed and reinstalled, unless a new master link is used each time. We find our tool accurate. We do not recommend replacement at 1%. The older 6 and 7 speed chains could go this far, but the newer chains are best replaced at or just before 0.75% wear. The new Campagnolo 11 speed should be replaced at 0.50%. The idea is to replace the chain before the rear cogs wear excessively, the chain being the cheapest part of the system.

'k, this makes sense. Though many cyclists simply replace cogs and chain at the same time. Thanks for sharing!
