Looking for a multi purpose tyre
#1
ok here goes my second post
after the nightmare i had basically rebuilding half my bike last week ive managed to get it back in good working order.
now the next thing i need for it is some good quality tires but i have no idea what to get,i live in the north of england so is faily hilly but i mostly seem to be riding on tarmac although some of the tracks ive found in the las few days end up going around the edges of fields so im thinking i need something that can handle both types of terrain.
if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
the wheel size is 26" on what i presume is a standard mtb width

I have Bell brand tires on my hybrid, works well in dirt and on pavement. The key features are continuous rubber in the center for quiet efficient riding on pavement, and some knobs out towards the sidewalls. I do not know if they are avaiable in the UK.

These Continentals should be, and are a much nicer tire than the Bells I have:

These Kendas also fit the bill:

Great tire, have it on my hybrid, also have the following on my MTB and I actually prefer it over the Schwalbe.

just a quick update that is probably more rant than anything else,i finally got round to ordering a new rear tyre on tuesday from chain reaction cycles it said same day dispatch if ordered before 3pm(i ordered at lunch time)they didnt actually dispatch it until thursday so now im not going to get it until monday.

im so annoyed its unbelievable,i wanted to ride down to the beach today and i dont trust the tyre that i have on at the moment every time i go any distance i end up getting a new puncture.

if i had realized they would take so long to deliver i would have just paid the extra tenner and gone to halfords again.
heres what ive ordered anyway

fingers crossed they actually turn up on monday or its yet another day wasted waiting for the postman

Slip ups do happen, but 9 times out of 10 Chain Reaction get it right and dispatch quickly.

I also wouldn't pay Halfords prices, they charge through the nose for anything as most customers don't know/don't care much about bikes.

Interesting info. I have been thinking about new X tires on my MB. The Bell and Schwalbe look good.

Currently I have Kenda, but they are getting old. Nashbar has a big sale on tires but not in the size I need.

Had the Kenda cross center slick, thats good for mostly pavement.

PS just googled the Schwalbe $30 + shipping at Amazon, bit too rich for me. :-))

PSS when I open pages on this site I do not get my save link bar. Any way I an save links to my favorites directly from this list ??
Never Give Up!!!

well my new tyre and grips finally turned up today(about time too).
ive just fitted them on to my bike but im a bit unsure of the pressure it says to pump the tyre up to(between 2 and 4.5 bar) ive pumped it to about 3 bar and it seems as if it would explode if i pumped it any further also the side wall seems thin to the extreme compared to my old tyre.

heres a couple of new pics anyway.

im really not sure about the red on the grips but they dont come in blue and plain black is just boring.
next up is some new front suspension forks and an overhaul of the brakes + all new cables and outers but for now i think im just going to wait for the weather to improve and then get out for a nice long ride.
