Mobile Bicycle Repair Business

Afternoon all. I am a business broker and one of my current clients is a friend who owns a relocatable Mobile Bike Repair service. He started it but it was more than he wanted to handle, he is 68 and more ready to retire, so he wants to sell it. We are looking for a bike mechanic that would rather take the self employed route than employee route, controlling their own time and earning potential.

Hello Mike, I wish I were back in the US. Over the last few years, I've noticed an increase in the number of mobile bike repair and service vans compared to the past. I encountered them primarily when the biotech companies I worked for provided the service or when the local non-profit offered free tune-ups to bicycle commuters. One high-end bicycle shop has transitioned to a fully mobile model while organizing and leading group rides for its loyal clientele. I wish I were back in the US to consider your friend's business. Wishing them a good retirement.

Appreciate the reply and the feedback, what I hear often from bike shop owners is the difficulty in finding good mechanics and holding on to them. Thanks again. Mike

I wish you luck in selling this business! btw just curious what kinds of numbers a business like this can produce in the US? would it be possible to share the numbers of this business? it may also help selling it.

We think one can, one mechanic in a reasonably sized market can generate minimum $100k/year, if they are willing to really hustle upwards of $200k. From a negative, conservative point of view we think a bike mechanic could make more than he makes working full time in a retail bike shop but with less hours and the freedom to set his/her own hours.
