Specialised Globe Vienna 4 bling bling
Seems like open season on some lovely GT's so thought I might as well throw my commuter into the ring.
I built the frame up using a mix and match of retro parts and it rides superbly.
I know very little about GT's but it is lightweight steel with top tube internal cable routing, 1-1/8th head tube and replaceable rear mech hanger.
At the moment its in a rusty state but will give it a respray in the future.

I am thinking that would be a re-re-spray. I am thinking that bike was originally equipped with a rear U-brake and the original brake bosses have been removed and new or reused bosses welded down lower for v-brake use. or possibly canti's with a straddle cable.
They do make great bikes "steel is real" as they say

Thanks PK, You know your stuff mate. There is red paint inside the brake and gear cable stoppers. I couldnt work out how to use the 2 cable stoppers on the back of the seat tube but thanks for informing me. I wont be able restore this to original spec as too many other projects to complete but possibly a repsray somewhere down the road. I usually prefer aluminium frames but I have to agree with you and others that there is definitley something different about the steel. A couple of my mates rode this and are now hunting for steeel framed GT's.

They had wierd rear brakes on some of them, an odd clearance issue. You can see why new canti/linear mounts were welded to your frame. Also the angled brake bosses should make more sense.

I have always looked forward to your posts HC, and am at awe with your alloy prowess! Every one has their niche and you have found yours for sure.
On a broad spectrum for me anyway, I like Mtb's built from the mid 80's thru the mid 90's. I am 52 years old now and no longer sell new bikes so to speak and focus more on high-end retro mtb's but love making ultimate street machines out of them.
My personal fleet consists of:
1991 Mongoose Amplifier full suspension DeoreXT equip. (off-road )
1991 Gary Fisher Mtb tandem ( off-road )
1995 mongoose IBOC comp deoreLX equipped ( all purpose )
1994 univega Alpina DeoreXT equipped ( expedition/commuter )
1997 Bontrager Privateer Deorext equipped ( street rod )
1993 Rockhopper Comp DeoreLX,Xt equipped (street rod )
1997 Barracuda A2ZS DeoreLX equipped ( wifes street rod )
2009 Fuji Suncrest based Deore equipped ( cross country )
1995 Gratful Dead Hookoo (Display )
I guess you could say my house looks like a shop showroom flashback from the 90's. All near pristine examples of great bikes from the era.
I would have given you a pic of the brake area too, but I just sold my Team Avalanche tonight. Parting is such sweet sorrow !
Keep the triple triangle pics coming

Next restoration project. I found this dumped abandoned outside someone's house and cthought it was cute and couldnt resist it bringing it home. By coincidence my 4 y/o needed a bike with a freewheel as the one she currently uses is a fixie which I didnt thnk was safe for her once I removed the training wheels. I liked this because it is a mini version of a BMX.

latest bling project - the frame is Kona but I cant remember the model. I liked it because it has the BMX / Track bike styled drop-outs. chain ring is 46t and rear cog is 14t. I started off with 46x17 and as my strength increased I am now down to 14t. Its light and responsive and I am able to really pull some real speed with this bike.

Resurrection of my Specialized Globe Vienna 4 now in S/S set-up with 50x16 gearing, 700c Alex rims with Surly hubs. This is one very fast machine. I really love the S/S bikes because you dont have to worry about what gear you're in. With the 50x16t set-up you just pedal the life out of it and watch the speedometer climb high into the 20's with more to go and watch the road bikes drop pff.

Marin Dominican single speed / fixie but the only original parts are the frame an fork. I had it sprayed in the light blue and just waiting to finish polishing up the cranks.

thanks PK. i had a lot of plans to color match the hb grips, brake cables and tyres but I had a very impatient buyer for it who didnt want to wait another week up today. Its one of those bikes that gets attention and admiration and get strangers talking to you so not for anyone who is shy. More stuff in the pipeline.

Keep'em coming, I always show people this spread of yours to help their mind open up and wander a bit and cut loose from the norm. I call it
"Functional Expression". Truly a labor of love. I wish we lived down the street from each other, but sites like this are the next best thing I suppose!

Re-modified Globe. No more changes to this because it rides so well. After 5 years owning this bike and making a lot of modifications I finally have it looking and riding the way my vision felt it should be like. The 48x16 t gearing is perfect for my daily 30 mile commute and I havent checked the speed yet but I havent been dropped by a London bus yet and I have outran everyone who's tried it on so it is very fast.

looks killer for sure, that is one straight crank arm and some tight tolerance to the chainstay. what kind of headset are you using on it?
