Gazelle Champion Mondi 2000
#1
Hey, I found this one on the local listing. Sells for 475 EUR or $500.
Any first thoughts? Is the price reasonable?

p.s. I like those wheels; looking for a stylish city bike for fast urban rides, not a fitness/training bike.

Gazelle Champion Mondiale CT 59cm
Reynolds 531 tubing
Campagnolo dropouts
Shimano wheelset
Shimano SLR brake set
Shimano 2x8 shifters
Shimano 8-speed cassette (brand new)
Shimano headset
ITM Goccia stem
Cinelli Touch handlebar
New chain
New cables
Trutavit Tauro spline crankset
Continental Contact 28 mm tyres (new)

That bike is build to last but can't say it's build for speed.

Steel =/= speed

The price seems reasonable for the build and vintage.

The bike looks well taken care of from the photos. If they replaced something I would not be surprised.
It's a great deal but I don't understand, why would you take this for urban riding/ "stylish city bike"

Take a look at hybrid bikes which are more comfortable and for the city.

It is a racing bike, top level frame. It was built specifically for speed. The only style that would be faster is a time trial bike which would not make for a very good city bike.
I have commuted on a racing bike before, they are great for maneuvering with their short wheelbase; lightweight. If you are riding pavement it will work just fine.

I'm not very familiar with the old Gazelles but it seems too cheap for a good 531 frame road bike. Are you sure it's legit?

Also, are you sure the size/geometry is a good fit for you?

IMHO, with a frame like that, you should be more concerned about the condition of things like tubing, bottom bracket, drop outs and forks than the fact that it has a new cluster and snazzy wheels. Those are bolt on parts. If the frame isn't a good fit and in good condition, nothing you can bolt on will help.

Hard to to be sure from these photos but I'm also not confident with the cable routing. Brake cable housings out of the bars look short to me, as does the housing to the rear derailleur, while the cable housing into the back brake looks too long. I realise this seems like I'm being picky and I could be wrong but if I'm not, I would then have other questions about the build, especially given what looks like a low price.
