Specialized Armadillo Tires
#1
I am a 65 year old new rider riding at about 16 mph for two hours max at this time. I ride a giant ocr3 bike with a 700-25 tire. To prevent flats I changed to a specialized armadillo tire which is heavier with a kelvar liner. It appears with the same effort my mph has dropped to 15. Is this normal with this type of heavier tire?
Thanks bob butler

Yes, heavier and/or wider tires will slow you down. The tread pattern also makes a difference. Knobby off-road tires will be slow on the road, while smooth and narrow street treads will be a lot faster.
