Fork replacement

A friend of mine drove her car into her garage with her Giant road bike on the rack on top. She bought it a few yrs ago at some discount place that no longer sells bikes. It bent and cracked the fork where it forks. I'm not sure where to purchase a replacement for it. It is a 1-1/8" diameter top tube (I'm not sure of the names of parts) I straightened it pretty much but the welds (it is aluminum or some light metal) are cracked and the collar is broken. The rake seems quite large ~70mm compared to all the forks is see out there. Any suggestions?

Aluminum cannot be straightened and will break.

I understand I was trying to straighten it to measure the rake. I get close to 70m. I think those links you sent were all 43mm rake. That was my real question. Where to get a higher rake fork. I can't seem to find any.

How about some pictures so that we can understand what you are writing about?

Seems hard to believe you were able to straighten it accurately enough to measure a 3mm difference. Unless you have a pretty precise jig, I would think you're basically guessing at the specs for the old fork regardless.

I would also check out the frame pretty carefully for any damage before I put a new fork on it.

Do not know how you can tell rake from photos or measure rake on bend forks. The 70mm figure you give is a lot, do not know how you got 43mm from looking at photos

Consider contacting Giant for replacement fork.

Send photos. what model etc, and yes check the frame too.

Ahh - I clearly misread the numbers you were posting.

That said, I'd still be a little skeptical of numbers you get by measuring a fork you straightened by hand. 27mm is a pretty big jump, unless you're going from suspension to rigid or vice versa. The rake on a suspension fork can change quite a bit from completely unweighted to how it is expected to sit when being ridden.
