Help with restoring a free spirit tricycle

Has anybody fixed up a older free Spirit tricycle ? Not sure where to start. It has rust on body and handlebars. Would be grateful for some ideas.

Rust can be removed using oxalic acid from an autoparts store. Follow the directions. But then you have paint it quickly or similar to prevent it rusting again.

Generally; do the cosmetic work last, get the trike operating smoothly first.
