Cassette Freehub Compatibility
#1
My Friends has a "Hans Luti" road Bike.

I've never heard of it but it's 20 years old and a beauty at that. I'm giving it some TLC replaced the entire drive train but getting the rear sprockets is proving tricky.

The old Freehub that's on it doens't fit new shimano parts. So I need a new hub or a different cassette ( or a new wheel Tongue )

I've got this cassette:

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=67295

and I need a hub to go with it. Having found out that lots of the stuff I've bought isn't quite compatible I'm a little nervous to just buy a free-hub without checking it.

I've narrowed it down to this:

1. Buy a shimano hub.
2. Buy an 8/9/10sp hub any will do.

This here looks promising. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=78987

but I don't know how to tell if it will definitely be compatible...

any advice?
Thanks in advance!

Dave;

The cassette that you linked to will fit the freehub that you linked to;

BUT there is no guarantee that the freehub will fit the present hub on the wheel - and MOST likely it will not fit; unless it is currently a Shimano hub - and even then there are some incompatibilities.

And there's the issue of new hubs being wider than old hubs... road standard was around 125mm and now is 130mm. However, this is no big difference, so you can usually put in a new rear hub.

Joe there's a new thread in the forum which much better detail about exactly what I think I need. I do want a new hub (I think) could you have a look at that and see if you have any ideas?
