Schwinn spitfire

I have a older schwinn spitfire. I'm trying to figure out the year it was made and what it might be worth. Is there a way to determine the age of a bike? Thank you for any help.

locate the serial # on the frame. check the headtube, bottom bracket
or the rear dropout. and lets see a pic
