I have a Schwinn Avenue Hybrid, two years old, and yesterday when I took her out there was a clicking sound from (guessing here) the area of the bottom bracket and occasionally as I pedaled the crank lost tension (sort of slipped) and then caught and went on. Gut feel here is that the bottom bracket is going, what say you

Your gut may be right, but it could also easily be an issue with other components. Freehub/freewheel or cassette, chain, etc...

Try to narrow it down through the process of elimination. Might be better to have the bike up on a stand when doing this.

The slipping would not come from the bottom bracket. First I'd check if you just need to adjust the rear shifting, it may be jumping between gears. If not, it could be a worn chain/cassette.
