Cracked Frame 1983 GT All Terra Karakoram
#1
I have a vintage 1983 GT All Terra Karakoram with original killer paint job. I cracked the back tube just in front of the rear derailure on one side and bent the other back tube. Can this be repaired?
I realize the weld would have to be exact for the rear derailure to shift correctly. I have been through a lot with this bike and it breaks my heart to have this damage. I was thinking of consulting a welder too.
Thanks!
Gil

Yes it can be repaired, But you are going to have to have it repainted, because to repair it, much of the paint is going to have to come off.

This should only be repaired by an experienced bicycle frame builder. You may be able to hook with one here:

Personally, I would look for a replacement frame.

Hey Painkiller:
I was going to try to find a Karakoram frame and transfer all the components. My son works for a charity that donates free bikes to kids. He gets old bikes and puts them together for free. He learned how to do thi sin college and has all the tools. Did you refurbish the yellow GT in teh pic. My bike was was kept in pristine condition.
How can I reach you? Give me a number to contact you. Definitely 80's when I bought the red one.
