Uhh, where does this cassette piece go?

I just learned how to take off my cassette to switch it for one with more cogs. It's a Shimano Ultegra 12-27.

I cleaned the cogs and put it back on the bike, but I couldn't figure out one piece goes. It's the little ring in the center of this picture.

Is it even a part of the cassette? It looks like a washer to the Presta valve on one of my tubes, but it's smaller than that.

Also, when putting the cassette back on, I just tightened the lock ring as much as possible. Is there anything else I should do? I'd hate for the thing to fall apart when riding!

Thanks.

Check out the Shimano techdocs site. It will tell you all the components for your cassette. I don't think the small washer is a part of the cassette.

9 has a built in spacer, it is hard to tell from your pics where your next built in spacer is. I assume it is on the main cluster is the way I numbered them.
just look at your spacing between cogs
tighten your cluster when you put it on your wheel it will click click click until snug
