Rear Derailler not not moving to top gears

Morning, while cycling to work this morning my chain snapped.. had a spare which was handy. But, the rear derailler will only go to the 4th cog. Its an 8 speed cassette and before the chain snapping the gears shifted perfectly. Is it possible the chain snapping has somehow move the position of the derailler? Any help would be appreciated.

Problem solved, the cable had popped out one of the holders at the back, effectively tightening it, put it back in place and ok now

You carry a spare chain with you? Wow! I thought I carried a bunch of crud with me when I rode.

The farthest I have in the chain dimension is a spare Connex masterlink and a chain tool.
