Trek Investment Dilemma
#1
Let me start by saying that I DO NOT like wasting money so anytime that I go to spend any I have an inner battle with myself. So my problem today is that I met a guy that is wanting to offload his Trek 1000 (2000 yellow model) and is willing to come down for me to $160.

It was given to him as a gift and he isnt looking to make any real money off it. He said it has been sitting in his garage for a year so its a little dusty but other than that its fine. The question I have is if it is worth grabbing in the first place? It has all sora components that have alot of mixed opinions and if I am just going to have to drop more cash into it then I dont know if I should make that investment. Am I being to cautious or should I jump on a great deal when it comes my way?

have you seen it? If it fits right and runs out tight and right it may not be a bad deal. how much was it new? can you post pics? I am always looking for bikes to buy and referb and sell. What I look for in a used bike is appearance, like chips in paint, dull or rusty cables and parts. I ask myself what it needs

ie. cables, housing, tubes, tires are the norm for a good dependable ride.no matter how expensive of a bike, these basics can run a hundred bucks or so. wash that dust off and polish the paint up with polishing compound and you have sweet new looking ride.you can have the best components and if not set up right they work like junk also.
So if the bikes fits you and you like it. get it! upgrade it later if it needs it at all

bottom line is learn to do the work correctly yourself and expect to spend 100 bucks or so no matter the bike to make a great ride
