Rear Deraileur Skips

I recently got a vintage Steyr 10-speed Clubman (circa 1970). Everything on it is original and it is in great condition. The only thing I have noticed to be an annoyance is when I'm in the middle gear and going uphill, the chain seems to skip on the deraileur. It catches and I am still able to pedal, but sure makes me look a fool. This doesn't happen in any other gear. I'm new at biking and don't mind taking it to a shop, but would like to fix this on my own if at all possible. Thanks!

Just found this after a bit of research.

That happens on one of my bikes as well. I haven't noticed it on my road bike, but my hybrid does it when I attempt to shift it going uphill and I'm in a downward stroke on the pedals. I'm not sure what deraileurs you have on the bike, but that may have something to do with it.

I'm an avid, daily rider but I don't do bike repairs (yet), so maybe some of the repair guys have the reason for it. I just posted to let you know that you're not alone.

Have looked the gears over closely, if the ends of the teeth look rounded you will need a new set of gears. If not you may need a new chain or possibly both.
