Vintage tires
#1
Hi guys I am a newby here and need some guidance. I just recently bought an 1980's Ross road bike. The tires are old, their measurements are 27 X 1. 3/8 and I am having a hard finding them. I can find the 26's and 27 X 1. 1/4 but not the 3/8. Are they hard to find? Any suggestions.

Hi Lou - the 1 3/8 and 1 1/4 will interchange. It's just the width.
27's are getting scarce because 700 replaced it years ago but, you can still get them. Don't bother with wally world or any place like that. Any good LBS (local bike shop) should have a pair in stock or at least be able to order them.

Thanks, for the tip, I will check with my local shop. Is hard to find this size on the internet.

I like the Bell 27 x 1 1/4 // 1 3/8 ones I got recently at Wal-mart. They have Kevlar under the tread, great for commuting; no punctures even having riding over glass (no choice in the city). I run them at 100 psi.

I've been using Tioga Bloodhound tires for years, 27 x 1-3/8, just found some on Amazon. Never had a flat with these knobby treads riding in the suburbs.
