Problem with bike after moving part 2
#1
Hey everybody,

So a month or two ago I did a post about how I was having problems with my front fork not being aligned after moving. I got some good replies telling me how to adjust my headset, and I got that taken care of.

However, I've got another problem: now when I pull up on my handlebars there is obvious movement/play in the headset. I have everything as tight as I can get it, and I can see an obvious gap in the headset pieces of problem 1/16th of an inch. Here are some pictures... hopefully somebody has some advice, I really want to get out for a ride today! Thanks in advance.

I realize you can't see very well the gap I'm talking about in the pictures, but there is a small gap there... I don't know if it's supposed to be there or not, all I know is that when I lift up on the handlebars or let the bike fall down softly on the front wheel it rattles.

If the bars were just rotated, then all the parts should be in there in their proper place. First I would try following this: http://bikeride.com/adjust-threadless-headset/ to see if you can adjust out the play in the headset. If that doesn't work, you might need to have someone take a look at it to see if there is something missing or if there was damage.

Note that "adjusting the headset" IS what gets rid of this movement. It is not just a issue of having the bolts tight, it is about doing the adjustment properly. But if you have trouble get some help. Riding it loose can damage the headset, and if something else is going on, there could be safety issues.
