Raleigh Route 3.0 forks needed
#1
Hi all,
I am having a difficult time finding forks to replace the ones on my girlfriends bike. She was in a head-on collision and her bike was damaged pretty bad. The local bike shops who sell Raleigh say that they cannot get replacement forks and that she should buy a whole new bike.

Raleigh will not respond to our requests and tell us we need to deal with this issue through our local dealer.

The fork is SR NEX-4110 w/Preload Adjust, 63mm . If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Hal

It looks like those forks were sold by Suntour as OEM parts to several different bike companies, so you're probably not going to be able to buy an exact replacement yourself. You can get something close, probably for about $60.

My favorite LBS has two doors, if you walk in the front door to the showroom, you get the "oh, you need a new bike" answer. If you go in the back door to the repair shop you can get real answers, as long as you know a little about what you need.

Print a copy of the following page and take it to the shop:

Tell them you think that's close to what you had. Ask them if they can order it or something like it. If they say no, ask them why. There may be damage to the frame, or their labor rates plus the cost of the fork (and possibly bearings / headset) may come close to the $300 - $400 price of the bike. If it's a cost issue then order online and give it a go yourself, if you have the tools, time and a little mechanical streak in you.
Also, that's a nice bike. I'd hate to see it junked if all it needs is a new fork.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the replies. It has been very helpful. I am glad I found this forum. I was getting a little frustrated that the LBS's couldn't help us.

My girlfriend had just started riding and then this accident happened. It has not dampened her enthusiasm for riding even though it has been an expensive lesson when you add up the hospital bills and the possible bike repair costs.

Thanks again and have a Happy 4th of July,
Hal

Any half way decent lbs shouldn't have difficulty getting a pair of forks which will fit, even if not exactly the same, but Raleigh USA are right in that it should be sorted by your dealer and not them. But, if they are Raleigh main dealers and you are not satisfied with their response, complain to Raleigh about the dealer.

You must also have a cycling club in the USA similar to our CTC (Cyclist Touring Club) http://www.ctc.org.uk/ membership of which has many benefits, not least, insurance.
