mtb switch to ss
#1
I'm looking to switch my k2 mtb to a single speed. Any body have suggestions for cranks and free wheels. I'm not trying to climb too much just some street trickin'.
thanks

What kind of drive train do you have?
Good maintenance to your Bike, can make it like the wheels are, true and smooth!

First thing with converting to a single speed is the rear dropouts. The "dropout" is where the rear axel attaches. Single speed specific frames will have a Horizontal Dropout so you are able to tension the chain by pulling the wheel back and tightening it. If your K2 has vertical dropouts, you'll need to try a few different things. You could use a SingleSpeed chain tensioner, which is sort of like a derailler but it just tensions the chain. Or you could try and find that "magic gearing" where it would fit perfectly in the frame.
Here are some examples of what I mentioned.
