Tool Question
#1
I am trying to get this bottom bracket apart .. Is there any other way to get this nut loose other than buying a special wrench for it ? Here's a picture of the type setup I have ..

Thank you very much for looking at this .. I am sure glad this forum is here .. Rebuilding my first bike .. I had this one for years then got a new bike but have decided I like the old one better so I am gonna try to rebuild , renew it .. Wish me luck .. Thanks again , Don J.

i'll give you some advice that i never take myself, but usually wish i did.....get the right tool for the job. it turns a 10 minute job into a 3 hour ordeal, and usually the parts you break are more expensive than the tool was.

You will need a special tool for that. Even if you did manage to get the old one out without the correct tool, there's no way you'd get the new one in without damaging it.

Try shopping around, you can probably find both the crank puller and bottom bracket tool for well under $20.00 and they should last you a lifetime. Other than that, do you know anyone that is likely to have a set of cycle tools you could borrow?

Depending where you get some come with a lifetime warranty ,"I think".
Good maintenance to your Bike, can make it like the wheels are, true and smooth!

Thank you Everyone , I found the 2 together at wally world .. I hate buying from the big brother company but sometimes you have no choice in this case it was the price ..1/3 what I could find elsewhere . This was the only place where you could get them as a set..

You2mame gave some good advice . Use the right tool or cause a big mess .. Once I get this apart I still have to get the correct part for the bottom bracket housing ?? More Fun :-) ..

Thanks So Much ,Don J.
