Do I need to regrease?
#1
I've recently acquired a BSA Javelin that's been kept in garages since the 1970's and hardly ever ridden, I've oiled up everywhere using proper oil, not wd40.

Do I need to regrease? or will the oil make do?

Also, I've recently replaced the tyres, having put the front wheel back on, I've noticed a lot of play in it. How can I fix this?

Cheers Adam

I don't remember this model, what is it? racer, 3 speed?
Yes after 30+ years, the grease may have hardened and need renewing on all bearings, read up the tutorials on here and take your time, use proper bike grease, not car grease, I would suggest you replace the ball bearings while you have it dismantled but if it's a hub gear you may be ok with oiling only on the internals but I would regrease the external bearings.

Holy jee willickers! Very rare and very nice bike Big Grin . On the bottom bracket you will need a cottered crank removal tool if you ever get into any problems with it. If the bottom bracket area is functioning fine I would bother with it.

Again Nice bike my first time seeing a five speed like that,
Bill
Good maintenance to your Bike, can make it like the wheels are, true and smooth!

Did the saddle trick, bottom bracket sounds fine, rear hub sounds fine, as does the headset, the front wheel, that's a different story.

Good job I checked and thought it sounded funny, it was missing three ball bearings, robbed three from an old bike and it ran fine, needed some grease too, all is good now.

Thanks guys.
