Front Derailleur Help?
#1
My last couple of rides I've been having issues with my front derailleur. I've tightened up some of the slack in the cable. Now when I try to shift to the 3rd chainring, the chain gets stuck in the guard on the outside of the chainring. Also, when I shift from the 3rd chainring to the 2nd, it takes about 8-12 pedal strokes to catch.

My level of expertise is changing out tubes and tires (tyres on the other side of the pond! Wink ) and adjusting the brake cables as well as basic setup and assembly. What should I be looking for? Also, should I consider replacing the cable? Yes, it is a Grip Shift setup.

BTW, my ride is a GMC Denali 21 speed if that helps. It also has Shimano derailleurs both front and back.

If the FD worked fine before tightening the cable then try slackening it again to see if that cures your problem.
It sounds like the outer "stop" needs adjusting to stop the chain overshooting the big ring.
