Hello from Jasleen – getting more into cycling
#1
Hi everyone, I’m Jasleen. I enjoy staying active, travelling and spending time outdoors, and I’m getting more interested in cycling as another way to explore and stay active. I’m especially interested in recreational rides, longer day trips and practical tips around gear, comfort and planning. Looking forward to learning from more experienced riders here and joining the discussions.

Old guy here, but with good advice: you'll wanna watch out for distracted drivers, the new road hazard! Sad

Seems like there are more of 'em nowadays, and they are downright dangerous! Undecided

@Jasleen, welcome.

I second @Sidewinder and @Flowrider. Lots of distracted drivers and riders. I am one such distracted driver too.. especially when it comes to playing/changing music while driving a car..

But, lots of much, experienced riders, mechanics too.

Welcome and beautiful safe.

Thanks everyone! @Sidewinder @Flowrider and @GirishH The distracted-driver point is definitely something I’ll keep in mind. I’m hoping to get into some longer rides and touring as well, so I’m sure I’ll pick up plenty of useful advice around the forum.

I don't believe you'll ever regret increasing your cycling! Especially if you're able to get out and spend time biking in Nature. Love it! Smile

Absolutely, that’s one of the things that appeals to me most combining cycling with being outdoors and exploring new places. I’m still figuring out what type of riding suits me best, but I’m looking forward to learning from everyone here.

What kind of cycling routes are you most excited to try first—short local rides or longer day trips?

My riding thought is to just ride... enjoy the scenery, the forest, the birdsong, and just being in Nature. I try not to think too much about the bike and terrain. Maybe that's been simplistic, and as my focus is mountain biking, I am biased Smile

@Flowrider, isn't that why we love mountain and trail biking—to enjoy the scenery, forests, and wildlife instead of dealing with traffic, smoke, and fumes?...:-) Atleast those are my reasons...:-)

Yup, and It's why I'll never move from where I live. I'm so grateful for Nature and the mountain bike trails that I pretty much have in my "backyard"!

I think so many people are probably envious of the adventure you're on. There will be mishaps along the way. However, they make you appreciate the other times even more!

@Flowrider, I hear you and that's i envy folks who have Nature and mountains (and bike trails) near them. And, hence the reason I travel seeking those.

Adventures I am on? I love where the life/wind take (n and)s me..

@Jasleen, sorry for hijacking your thread. Where do you live and ride? There are folks here from all over (or ridden in many parts of) the world..so, I know they can/will guide you.

Safe riding.

@GirishH You have just got to come to Australia. We are super gifted with amazing tracks.

A friend and an associate have biked across the country and have shared their pros and cons of cycling here. Depending on when you do it, heat is a factor

@Flowrider, Australia was on my radar for this past year. Unfortunately, Nepal snagged me..

I know Australia will need a lifetime to explore because it's such a huge, diverse land/terrain.

And, I ha(d)ve the right bike/setup..

...it's such a huge,diverse land/terrain. Yup, totally agree.

There are those who have cycled it solo, but I'd suggest doing it with at least one other rider
