Hello mate, nice bike.It all depends on what you are planning to do with the bike - mtb'ing, commuting, cross country etc. I and most of the people I know are just into commuting so if someone brought a bike like this to me I'd be looking to turn it into a road / tarmac runner for commuting, so slick tyres, rigid aluminium fork, bigger outer chainrings and a closer ratio cassette (12-21 or 12-23).

Well ultimately I plan to use it on light trails and some commuting. I'm not new to riding or turning wrenches, however I am new to modifying bikes.

I'm sure you'd get the right advise here. Nice bike stand, is it a DIY job?

Yes the bike stand is a DIY I have a few more touches to put on it before it's completely finished. All in all though not bad for about $10.00 worth of wood and screws! I will be adding padding for the bike to set on a clamp to secure the bike when I am working on it and a good paint job should top it all off. Thank you for the compliment!

Upgrade suggestion, get rid of the suspension by changing the forks out for one of these:

When I say light trails I mean rugged enough to keep the front suspension. Thanks anyway though.

I would actually prefer to upgrade my front fork to something with 80mm travel, but from what I have read you don't want to get to much bigger than what the bike originally came with from the factory. Is this true and if so what would you guys recommend? Is 100mm to much?
