Next adventure or repeat the same..

Hello everyone,

​I'm curious: do you prefer repeating familiar rides and routes, or always seeking out new ones?

​For example, I spent two months bikepacking the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal last year and am already planning to repeat it this season to revisit the villages and families I met. It will be a different experience this time—likely more crowded due to peak tourist season, but with clearer, closer views of the Himalayas.

Similarly, I constantly dream of returning to South America to re-ride the two countries I visited while exploring the rest of the continent.

​Whether you are a weekend rider or a year-round bikepacker, do you get the itch to return to a favorite trail or tour, or do you mostly yearn for entirely new adventures?

​Just curious to hear your thoughts!

Interesting. With our Sunshine Coast Random Riders group, we don't always have a plan for a ride. We have a meeting place and just ride from there. Sometimes it will be on the same tracks we've done.

Every week, there is a different designated leader who can choose wherever they want to ride.

I guess even doing a reverse loop of your familiar route could be called a different ride.

@Flowrider, actually doing a reverse loop definitely is a new adventure/ride..

Doing the same ride with different riders too will turn out a different experience, I guess..:-)

I think living in an area and not travelling as you do, you are kinda limited in what tracks are available to you. So it's always a case of trying to maybe combine two different tracks together.

So in our case, instead of doing a Pomona circuit one day and a Cooran loop another time, we can split them into some Pomona and some Cooran.

Obviously, the tracks have to be nearby.

@Flowrider , personally, in my experience, riding in different seasons brings completely different perspectives. I'm not sure if where you ride has distinct seasons, but in the Northeast US or here in Southern India, the changing seasons transform the terrain so much that it's like night and day.

Riding the exact same route as the colors, temperatures, and skies shift feels like a brand-new experience every time.

Back when I was in the Boston area, I used to bike the same trails across three seasons—winter, spring, and fall.

It was just spectacular.

Yeah, the weather does make the tracks a different ride, but at the end of the day, we are riding in Nature and just having fun!
