Gear problem

My daughter has a shockwave XJ 920 bought last year from Halfords has bee in for 6 wk check no problems however front left hand quick change for gears does not seem to engage gears it turns but no resistance this means she can only use 1 set of gears. Any help would be appreciated

If it stopped working directly from Halfords check then take it back to be rectified. I would assume if it was faulty before then they would have mentioned it to you?
If it was O.K. and has gone faulty since. Has cable snapped or come loose? Does the front derailleur move at all when the changer is operated?
