I had to get new tires yet again. It turns out, the Tioga FASTR X weren't compatible with my custom wheels. They required 17~19mm ID rims as recommended.
I've had to abruptly switch tires, and I'm incredibly impressed with how the Maxxis Detonators ride.
These are very similar tires at 1.5" and 80PSI, but offer puncture protection as a very nice bonus for dealing with mean streets like I have to. The Detonators seem to roll at least as fast as the Tiogas0, which is amazing since the FASTR X tires seem to have a more consistent surface. I don't think you feel the control as much in the Detonators, but it's definitely there and they handle incredibly well too. I haven't held back at all, and the dual compound with micro-knurl tread catches every bit of what my 50mm stem has dished out so far. The Detonators ride very much like a good BMX tire, and they give my bike that special BMX feel to them with that quality.
27.5 is a very difficult size to find good commuter tires for, so I hope this can help shine more light in the right direction for anyone looking.
I'd be happy to answer any additional questions anyone might have.
