Broken derailleur
#1
I bought a broken-up mtb as a little rebuild project. Its a Vitus Nucleus VRS.

The derailleur on it is broken and I am looking for a replacement. the bike has a 1x10 with an 11-46T cassette.

According to the bike manufacturer website, it comes with a Shimano RD-M6000-GS. but on Shimanos website it says that only goes to 42T. so just confirming that it should be fine since the bike manufacturer used that same one.

Going on Shimanos website the alternative is the Shimano RD-M5120-SGS.

It's a bit cheaper, but will it be compatible and is there a big difference between the 2?

The type of cage you'll need for a 46t low gear is a long cage.

If you get a Dynasys, try to match it with the same series Dynashift shifter since you're not experienced enough to hotfix any inconsistencies.

You should be able to get any Shimano 10 speed rear derailleur, so long as it's a long cage.

Shimano RD-M5120-SGS is a Deore long cage (as a perfect example of this). That's why it's suggested.

The tag on the end SGS denotes this.

If it was GS, that would denote a medium cage.

If it was SS, that would denote a short cage.

Some series of rear derailleurs for Shimano come in two sizes or more, and that explains the need for this classification.
