GIOS COMPACT PRO 2011
#1
Hello all!

New here and will be looking for advice regarding building an old style frame into a new style bike.

I managed to come across a "new" (never built up) Gios Compact Pro steel lugged frame from 2011. Sold to me from someone I know that bought it from a woman whose husband had passed and never got the chance to work on it. It had some minor scratches from getting moved around, but otherwise in excellent condition. Main problem is that I have no fork; none was to be found upon the initial purchase from the widow. I know I need to get some measurements to determine the right length, but I don't know how much I need to have extra over and above the head tube length. This frame is just like a frame from 30 or more years ago with a standard bottom bracket shell (Italian), and 1" headtube/fork design. I was wondering if when getting a fork what the fork steerer tube difference would be if I used a quill stem (with threaded steerer) or a threadless stem/steerer (with adaptor for 1"), or threaded steerer with an "quill" adaptor to clamp on a threadless stem. What is best? I have only a couple parts (drivetrain) that I scavenged over the last couple years, but no fork or cockpit parts. I need to measure the rear fork for hub/cassette size that I can fit, but I have no idea what size matches what cassette speed range I can use; more ignorance on my part. I would like to go with a wide range rear (11-12 speeds?), and one ring (52-54T depending on rear gears) in front if possible. This frame has some sort of weird drop out I've not seen before. I didn't take a photo since I figured measurements are more important first so I'll get those posted when I get my hands on the frame again and I'll try to post a picture if I am allowed.

Thank you for your time.

Neal
