Cyclocross pedals with mud clearance

Hey riders.
What pedals do you use for CX? I got the popular Shimano M540 as default pedals from a friend and they are fine, nevertheless the mud clearance is becoming an issue. Autumn mud & first snow put the pedals to test and they're just not working to 100% satisfaction. Can you throw in tips for something better? Thanks!

hi Henry, have heard good reviews on Bontrager Comp MTB pedals from couple of my buddies who shred the mud with CX. might not be the very same quality level as Shimano (yet very close), but should work much better for cyclocross than M540s

Dom, thanks for the tip by the way. I totally ignored your reply Back to buying decision only now though, I'll disect Bontrager ones and look into them. Price is tad higher, but must be worth it. Spacing looks good, lighter than M540.
